Telefonica O2 plc (known as O2 or before March 2005 as mmO2) is a British telecommunications company specializing in mobile telephony, originally part of the BT Group and owned since 2005 by the Spanish operator Telefónica. In May 2020, Telefónica and Liberty Global announced the merger of O2 and Virgin Media in the United Kingdom in a deal valuing the combined entity at nearly $38 billion, including debt. Both companies will have a 50% stake in the combined entity.
