O2 data: top-up plans and offers
O2 pay-as-you-go customers have several options to access the Internet from their mobile devices. They can pay for their data consumption either with their phone credit or with data Bolt Ons.
Paying O2 data with your phone credit
In case you have run out of your eventual monthly data allowance (Big Bundle or Bolt On), or if you haven't added any O2 data plan to your account yet, you data usage will be charged directly from your phone credit. The UK rate is 1p/mb, charged only once you reach 20 mb of usage. However, it's not as simple as that. There are a few things you should know.
O2 will charge you at each session the minimum fee of 1p. That means that each time your device accesses the Internet, you'll be charged at least 1p. Thus, beware! If your mobile data is activated on your phone, you may be charged each time your Facebook or emailing app tries to update... Which can occur many times a day! You can either avoid this by turning on your mobile data only when you need to, or with O2 Bolt Ons.
Bolt On data top-up
O2 mobile data can be purchased through Bolt Ons. They are add-ons that pack data or phone credit allowances at an interesting fare. For instance, a 2 GB monthly data Bolt On will only cost you £13.50 while using 2 GB of data would normally amount to around £20.50. Data Bolt Ons have expiry dates and have to be used within 31 days from their purchase. They can be bought on top of your Big Bundles, even if you have data remaining on your account. Note that Bolt Ons can be queued, meaning that they will only activate when you run out of data.
